Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has announced the acquisition of 1,500 motorcycles for the country’s Armed Forces, marking the largest purchase of its kind since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The volume is three times higher than the total acquired throughout the previous year.
The contracts were signed by the state agency responsible for defense procurement, and all motorcycles are expected to be delivered to military units by the end of 2026. The tender attracted six companies, helping to reduce acquisition costs and generate savings of approximately US$290,000.
According to Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, motorcycles are among the most requested vehicles by Ukrainian troops, alongside pickup trucks. The funds saved during the procurement process will be directed toward new purchases of equipment and transportation assets for the military.

“Motorcycles provide units with high mobility and allow them to quickly carry out combat missions in complex logistical conditions, rough terrain, and off-road environments,” Fedorov emphasized.
The increase in purchases reflects the growing importance of light vehicles in the war in Ukraine. In addition to their low cost and ease of maintenance, motorcycles offer greater agility to evade drone and artillery attacks, factors that have become essential in a conflict increasingly dominated by unmanned systems.
